Lasting changes happen intrinsically

Anyone who ever needed to learn a new language, skills or computer program, knows that it takes a lot of effort and continuous practices to switch over to the new set of skills. Becoming comfortable and embedding the new knowledge happens overtime. So, why is it that when it comes to changing something within us, a belief, a pattern, a behavior, we either think it cannot be done and give up before even trying, or we want to get through with it, as fast as possible?

Isn’t so that lasting change requires new brain circuits to be established in order to transform our thoughts, emotion and actions? Remember that for change to take place, focus, resilience and repetition will be required.

How to 4U

  • Expect Resistance this is nearly inevitable - As habitual beings most humans will have a form of resistance to change. This first reaction can help you get ready if not used predominantly to resist and push what is coming away.

    • A healthy dose of resistance, will sharpen your mind and help you identify areas you may need more attention for.

  • Celebrate wins along the way - Celebrating successes along the way is not only rewarding, it confirms that you are on the right track and can keep going forward.

    • Acknowledging your progress, make you want to invest even more into next steps, as the efforts are not in vain.

  • Repeat the process to anchor the change - Repetition is what will make your change become permanent.

    • For long term benefits, the new beliefs, pattern or behavior must become part of our new normal.
